Tragically Slave Trade is Alive and Well in Libya

Last week I mentioned to some friends that I had just read that evening about a slave trade in Libya that had occurred since the Obama administration changed that country’s regime.

One verse my mother taught me when I was a little boy was Matthew 5:16.  “Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and Glorify the Father who is in heaven,” or something like that depending on the translation. William Wilberforce most certainly did that.  Toward the end of the book about Wilberforce’s life, “Amazing Grace” by Eric Mataxas, it says that when William Wilberforce entered Parliament there were only three members who identified themselves as Christians. But by the time he left Parliament there were 200 such members of Parliament. His light shined on the world because he stood up for Jesus as a politician who put Him first.  At least that is my understanding. Meantime I read in ZeroHedge yesterday an article that says that in Libya, since Hillary Clinton’s move to destroy Qaddafi, the slave trade is back in fashion with healthy slaves being bought and sold for a mere US$400 each!

I hope that as a Christian I am letting my light shine, unlike many of the very comfortable Brits of the late 1700’s and early 1800’s who chose instead to enjoy the benefits of living in an empire.  Hopefully I will not just keep my mouth shut rather than lovingly standing up for Jesus.
