The Politics & Economics Behind Global Climate Change

William Engdahl, Michael Oliver and Nolan Watson return as guests on this week’s radio program.

With religious fervor, leftist politicians declare with 100% certainty that post-industrial-age humans are the primary cause of climate change. They demand the cessation of fossil fuel consumption. They site as “fact” that “99% of all scientists agree” but never tell you that the scientists in their data base have all been paid to write papers on that topic to reach that pre-ordained conclusion. Contrary views by legitimate scientists like Patrick Michaels, for example, are blindly dismissed.

William explains the political forces that have driven climate hysteria and their political and economic motives. Nolan Watson, the CEO of Sandstorm Gold, explains how the royalty and streaming gold company is poised for dramatic growth with lower than normal mining company investment risk.  As usual, Michael provides his astute insights into the precious metals, equity and debt markets.

William Engdahl is an award-winning geopolitical analyst, strategic risk consultant, author, professor and lecturer. After earning a degree in politics from Princeton University and graduate study in comparative economics at Stockholm University, he worked as an economist and investigative freelance journalist in New York and Europe. He has been researching and writing about the world political scene for more than thirty years. His various books on geopolitics have been translated into 14 foreign languages from Chinese to French, from German to Japanese. His most recent works trace the strategies and events that led to the rise of the US as an international superpower after 1945, a new kind of Empire not based upon sole military occupation of land, but control of vital resources (finance, the basic food chain, energy, in particular oil) as the basis for what would become the greatest concentration of power in history, after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Since co-founding Sandstorm Gold in 2008, Nolan Watson, President, CEO and Director of Sandstorm, has led the company’s transformation from a small startup into a diversified royalty company with a billion-dollar market capitalization. Prior to Sandstorm, Nolan was CFO of Silver Wheaton Corp. (now Wheaton Precious Metals Corp.) where he gained the experience he needed to make Sandstorm a reality and a success. During his time there, Nolan developed the silver streaming business model and helped raise more than US$1 billion in debt and equity to fund the company’s growth. Nolan is a Fellow of the CPA of British Columbia (Valedictorian). He holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with honours, from the University of British Columbia. Nolan was named the EY Entrepreneur of the Year, recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40, awarded CEO of the Year by Business in Vancouver, and received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Michael Oliver entered the financial services industry in 1975 on the Futures side, joining E.F. Hutton’s International Commodity Division, NYC. He studied under David Johnson, head of Hutton’s Commodity Division and Chairman of the COMEX.

In the 1980’s Oliver began to develop his own momentum-based method of technical analysis. In 1987 Oliver, along with his futures client accounts (Oliver had trading POA) technically anticipated and captured the Crash. Oliver began to realize that his emergent momentum-structural-based tools should be further developed into a full analytic methodology.

In 1992 he was asked by the Financial VP and head of Wachovia Bank’s Trust Department to provide soft dollar research to Wachovia. Within a year Oliver shifted from brokerage to full-time technical research. MSA has provided its proprietary technical research services to financial and asset management clients continually since 1992. Oliver is the author of The New Libertarianism: Anarcho-Capitalism.
