Mexico’s Earmarked Gold Bars at the Bank of England vaults

In response to a Freedom of Information Request by Mexican financial writer Guillermo Barba, Mexico’s central bank Banixco, has just released quite a comprehensive list of 7265 gold bars that it holds in the Bank of England’s gold vaults. This is unusual in that very few central banks ever allow publication of such as list. While the Banixco list does not include real serial numbers of the gold bars, it includes refiner brands which provides a few insights into the gold held in the London vaults and the wider London Gold Market. Mexico also holds ‘unallocated’ gold which is interesting as it shows that the Bank of England offers this type of gold account.
