Best Way to Own Gold? Best Way to Own Gold Stocks?

Nolan Watson and Thomas Coughlin are first time guests this week on the radio program.

Nolan is the CEO of a gold royalty and streaming company named Sandstorm Gold Royalties. For reasons that Nolan explains streaming and royalty companies profit from metal production but face less risk than standard mining companies. As such, they tend to be priced by the market at higher multiples than the norm in the mining sector. Owning gold as a safe haven against risks of political or monetary mayhem is well documented.

But Thomas explains why combining crypto-currency-backed gold has advantages over holding gold in your personal safe. Both men provide an education that is most important during a time when global economies are becoming ever more burdened with debt with potential for another major catastrophe as bad as or worse than that of 2008-09.

Since co-founding Sandstorm Gold in 2008, Nolan Watson, President, CEO and Director of Sandstorm, has led the company’s transformation from a small startup into a diversified royalty company with a billion-dollar market capitalization. Prior to Sandstorm, Nolan was CFO of Silver Wheaton Corp. (now Wheaton Precious Metals Corp.) where he gained the experience he needed to make Sandstorm a reality and a success. During his time there, Nolan developed the silver streaming business model and helped raise more than US$1 billion in debt and equity to fund the company’s growth.

Nolan is a Fellow of the CPA of British Columbia (Valedictorian). He holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree, with honours, from the University of British Columbia.

Nolan was named the EY Entrepreneur of the Year, recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40, awarded CEO of the Year by Business in Vancouver, and received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Thomas Coughlin is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Allocated Bullion Exchange (ABX). He has worked in the investment, funds management and bullion industries for approximately fifteen years. His professional portfolio management career spans the foundation of the boutique investment company, TRAC Financial, to the establishment of a highly successful Absolute Return Fund. Thomas has dedicated a significant part of his career working collaboratively to build the complex systems of a cross-border international bullion market with an extensive global network of central bankers, brokers, fund managers and advisers. His experience, extensive network and broad knowledge of capital markets, enable him to deliver exceptional value and insight to all stakeholders. Article source:
