A New Apple Watch Is Coming This Year, But It’s Not A Major Upgrade

From StockNews.com: According to a report from a reputable Chinese publication, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will unveil its third generation Apple Watch this fall — but the only new feature will be an improved battery.

The watch could also include a faster processor. From MacRumors:

On Tuesday, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) claimed the next iteration of the wearable device will be manufactured by Taiwan-based Quanta, which was also responsible for the production of Apple’s first and second-generation smartwatch.

Citing market watchers with knowledge of Quanta’s plans, the paper said improving battery life is the manufacturer’s “main task”, but beside general performance improvements, the device’s other hardware would not see much change. Quanta declined to comment on the report, calling it “market speculation”.

Without significant design or functionality improvements, it’s difficult to imagine the new device will move the needle much. Smartwatch sales saw steep declines toward the end of last year, and the product category has failed to prove itself as a viable complement to smartphones like manufacturers hoped it would.

Apple Inc. shares were trading at $116.28 per share on Tuesday morning, up $0.46 (+0.40%).

AAPL currently has an StockNews.com POWR Rating of A (Strong Buy), and is ranked #1 of 24 stocks in the Technology – Hardware category.
